Attendance |
Now that your child is enrolled and will start Kindergarten it is very important he/she is in school consistently. Please make an effort to have your child at school every day by 8:25 a.m. Young children thrive in a consistent environment where they are comfortable with the routine of school and are able to practice what they are learning through a lot of repetition. We are working towards 100% attendance each and every day! Of course, if your child is sick keep him/her home to recover. We want students to be healthy, too. If your child is sick please provide me with a doctor’s note. For any other emergency, send a note with your child explaining their absence. If your child has 2 or more unexcused absences he/ she will not be able to participate in the monthly incentive. Dismissal is at 2:55 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Please make sure you are on time to pick up your child.

Homework |
Your child will have homework Monday through Thursday! Homework reinforces classwork through practice and extension. It gives students the opportunity to display responsible behavior. Through homework, students learn how to manage their time and to learn the importance of setting goals and working hard to achieve them.
Your child will be taking home a weekly homework sheet stapled to their homework packet. Please make sure you read the weekly homework sheet – it might have important information that I wish to communicate with you. A behavior update will be there as well. Please check your child’s homework daily and sign the sheet each day when completed. Homework packets are sent out on Monday and must be returned on Friday. The packet has a sheet of homework for each day of the week excluding Friday. You may help your child with the homework, but please do not do it for them. Homework is checked and returned. If it is not done, it will affect your child’s grades. On your weekly homework sheet there is a section for weekly sight words. Your child must know how to read and spell each word. Every Friday students will have a sight word test on the words of the week. Please study with your child! Behavior Management Plan In our class we have a behavior chart that is monitored on a daily basis. Green = Excellent behavior = 2 hawk wings Yellow = Okay, but can do better = 1 hawk wing Red = Needs improvement = no hawk wing On Fridays, your child will use the stars they have earned all week to go shopping in the teacher’s treasure box filled with prizes. The goal is to stay on green every day in order to excel in Kindergarten. Students also receive hawk bucks which they use to go shopping at the school store. You will also get a daily update on your child’s behavior in your child’s weekly homework packet and through our Class Dojo account: Jessica Costa j[email protected] |
